In this three and half hour experiential workshop, we will explore and practice postures that enhance the mobility of these areas of the body as well as postures that help us to develop strength and stability in the region. We will also examine the relationship between the shoulder blade and upper back as they relate to the neck and head position in asanas.
Topics covered include:

  • The basic anatomy of the three bones and four joints that make up the shoulder girdle.
  • Causes of movement restrictions in the shoulder and how to improve flexibility without injury.
  • Learn and practice a sequence of postures designed to develop strength and stability in the shoulder girdle.
  • Learn how to sidestep or correct students with neck discomfort in postures such as Triangle, Shoulderstand and Uttanasana.
  • Learn which actions/movements are desireable as we move into, hold, and move out of certain yoga asanas and why.
  • How to modify your approach to asana practice when there is a shoulder injury. (Come with your questions about your own body and practice)

Come prepared for an informative, fun and challenging session. This workshop is open to teachers and students with at least two years practice experience. Some prior knowledge of anatomy is useful but not essential.
